A 'discussion essay', also called a 'for and against essay' question asks you to outline at least two perspectives on a topic and then, finally, state which point of view you side with.
Thesis statement
Your thesis statement may look like this:
While increased funding would no doubt benefit the Association Advocating for Women and Community organization enabling them to achieve their goals, the government must decide whether the limited funding available for such organizations is best needed elsewhere.
Note: “While...” is a good way to start a thesis statement for a discussion essay.
